Absoultely!!!! In fact we are in the process of building our “green” home here very soon!!! There are so many advantages to green living…both for your family and for the environment!!
I’m looking to build my own home in Canada in the next couple of years so I am very interested in looking at alternative materials and solar/wind power. So if anybody knows of any good websites then please let me know. But to answer your question I would only buy such a house dependent upon 2 things. 1 It would have to be tried and tested and 2 The same old criteria when buying any house, location, location and location.
If it works really well, then yeah, I’d move into one. It’s good for the environment, and (getting into politics here) it helps prevent global warming. Houses like this should maybe be more expensive though.
I certainly would. I am all for saving the earth. However, if this is an existing house, I would like good solid evidence of how the systems performed and how the material is holding up. Too many people jumped on the bandwagon a few years back and built these types of homes but didnt know what they were doing. Some folks actually put up solar panels on the north side of the house. i am also extremely interested in wind power. Where I live now, for a small investment I can have wind power when my electricity goes out. If you are going in this direction, do a lot of reading or get qualified opinions on how to build or how the current house meets the standards. Getting stuck with a non-functioning solar power system can cost more than the house is worth.
Unfortunately, having priced such houses, I find that they’re priced much higher than I can afford. So, I’m afraid that I have to go with a traditional house and commercial electric and gas service. And I have a LOT of company. Good for you if you can afford that fancy-smantsy “green” house. Just don’t rub my face in it or I’ll burn it down for ya!
I definitely would if they were the same price, but that is unfortunately impossible. With the higher price and problems it just isn’t worth it yet. When the earth begins running lower on resources these houses will become more prevalent and with the more that are built, the better they will be.

but the solar isn’t the sole power cause its not always available
most people don’t care enough about the environ to have custom made.
most builders wont take the financial risk of building alternative.
several movie stars have built some groovy alternative digs. but mostly in desert where solar and other things work better.
if you got wind of something that looks great and works equally well in cold or cloudy weather, sell lit. you’ll be a rich man, in many ways!.
